Inter Club Match v Brett Vale - 10th March 2020

A few of us that used to be members at Brett Vale were keen to go back and experience the changes that the new green keeping staff are making and the general opinion was that they’re doing a great job, the greens in particular were fast and true, not what we are used to.

Terry organised the weather for us, it turned out to be the hottest day of the year so far.
The matches didn’t favour us really but it is early days and we can only get better ....

Match 1: Terry Mitchel and Allen Smith had a good front nine but ran out of steam on the back, the only note being Alan’s great drive on 17,
Match lost 6&5

Match 2: Malcolm Norton and Tony Reeve. Malcolm got off to great start on the first, duffing his tee shot 10 yards. His driving improved after that though. They were 2 up on the front nine, and despite having 8 pars and a birdie,
The match was lost 2&1

Match 3: Phil Boyland and Adrian Cherry. A closely fought match with Phil sinking a birdie putt on the 9th, but the succumbed to a loss.
Match lost 4&3.

Match 4: John Parkinson and David Seymour. Again another very tight match but with the help of a great birdie on 17, this was enough to give us our first victory.
Match Won 2&1.

Match 5: Peter Garnett and Alan Line. Our middle order batsmen had another very close match with Peter and their opponents, Colin & Colin, both halving the 6th in birdies.
Match lost 2 down.

Match 6: Brian Castle and Rob Swan. Another ex Brett Vale player, so much was expected of Brian, however after both our players performing very well, they were worn down by their opponents.
Match lost 3&2.

Match 7: Bob Filer and Mike Moore. Bob and Mike played a blinder, 5 birdies but still lost, we don’t know either ?
Match lost 3&2.

Match 8: Tony Denmead and Neil Ashwell. I think Tony, also ex Brett was a little surprised by the quick greens today, him and Neil put up a valiant fight but it wasn’t to be.
Match lost 3&1.

We were looked after on the day by the always cheerful Jason, he provided us with great hospitality and a great meal afterwards.
A great day out had by all.

Many thanks to Malcolm Norton on his report on today’s match. Tough day !!
