Inter Club Match v The Warren - Gainsborough - 3rd April

Stoke by Nayland       3½       The Warren       4½

There were a few close matches, two going to the last hole, one each to both teams and one halved match, but unfortunately there were some large defeats from the home side, saved by one big win for SBN.  It may be that Barry getting an amazing hole in one on the 11th hole, which the Captain thought was quite straightforward choice, was the turning point in that game.  SirBob was currently closest to the pin and I am sure that we all feel sorry for him, to lose out.  Many thanks to Barry who generously brought all players a drink after the match.

The Captain started with a few disclaimers about the wetness of the course, but it seems that the opposing side coped better with our greens, than we did.  A little knowledge is a dangerous thing!  Having said that, the course is getting dryer and it may be helped by the fierce wind experienced across the 14th and 15th holes.

There was a good spirit after the game, mainly thanks to Barry and we all look forward to the return match at the Warren.

Many thanks to Ian McK for taking on the responsibilities of reporting on this match - thanks Ian.
