Match 1 Capt Kev Price & Kev Walsh Lost 4 v 2
SbN probably peaked too early with a tap-in par on the 1st to go one up - and then lost the next 3 holes! We then played some reasonable golf to be only one down after 13. At which point Neil and Danny holed a number of key putts to win the next three holes and close it out 4&2. An enjoyable match against very good (and friendly) opposition!
Match 2 Simon Merriam & Dave Seymour Lost 1 v 0
Aren’t interclub matches wonderful… You realise how lucky you are to be a member of SBN.
Simon and I were matched against Warren’s Darren & Mick. Darren gave us all shots and as we were told afterwards, he is very competitive.
He was also very good at telling us how to drop a ball back in play and where you can and
where you cannot stand when on the green. Very educational – if you needed it! Anyway. Simon played excellently throughout and solely kept us in the match – being all square on the 18th. However, poor putting the final shots of the day cost us the match.
Match 3 John Parkinson & Tony Emms Lost 3 v 2
Good match only time we were up was after JP won the first, what followed was a tough battle on
difficult greens, against a solid Warren pairing of John and Andy, we were 4 down after 7 holes. But
then Tony woke up after jarring his already injured elbow it sparked him into life and he produced 2
back to back wins on hole 8 & 9 our injured hero also won hole 11 with JP winning hole 10. Match
now all square !! was a win on the cards for the dynamic SbN pair? sadly no, our opponent Andy who
had been very quiet all match, suddenly found some form winning holes 12 15 and 16 match over.
Good company good grub and a enjoyable mornings golf at The Warren.
Match 4 Phil Hickley 7 Norman Davidson Lost 3 v 2
Having played against Gary & Mike in the previous home match, Norman recalled the ability of Mike to hit a very consistent left hand fade. This he demonstrated from the off and with an excellent short game parred the first four holes. Meanwhile after depositing his third shot into the pond on the first, Norman then lost a further four balls before the sixth. Phil meanwhile battled on by himself managing to be only two down at the turn. Going a further two down after the turn, the Stoke pair managed a brief recovery only to concede to a 3 & 2 loss on the 16th. Despite the defeat, the match was played in a good friendly spirit.
Match 5 Ian Mckay & Andy Higginson Lost 5 v 3
Ian and Andy lost 5 and 3 to Mike and Paul. The match was very friendly and reasonably close on the front nine. Mike and Paul won several holes in a row on the back nine to score a convincing win. On the 17th hole, the 7th hole played in this match, Mike holed a 25 foot putt for a birdie only for Ian to bravely hole his 15 putt for his birdie and a half. Indeed Mike and Ian were the form players often the only players in the group competing to win a hole.
Match 6 Bob Filler & John Jardine Lost 5 v 4
Enjoyable game good company, very close until the 12th when The Warren pair hit top form with
SbN going in the opposite direction The Warren clinched the match with a excellent show of putting
talent, ending up the deserved winners.
Match 7 Peter Jay & Phil Boyland Lost 6 v 4
All square after 9 then one wheel fell off quickly followed by the other …!!
Match 8 Del McWilliams & Trev Waterhouse Lost 3 v 1
After being 3 down after the first 4 holes we recovered to be all square after 9. We immediately slipped back to 2 down and never recovered.
Many thanks to John Parkinson for taking on the responsibility of reporting on todays (sad) match against The Warren. Thanks JP
