HAVERHILL 5 SbN 3
Upon a morn when Captain Kev scarce had stretched his golden limbs across the Haverhill sky, two noble knights of verdant field appeared. Sir Kevin of SBN, lithe and sure and young (LEAVE IT ! ) and super fit Eamon ( may have exaggerated here ) of Haverhill, whose tempered blade - nay club was swift and keen.
With partners close as squires at ready hand, they stepped upon the green, proud turf of war.
Sir Kevin, first to draw his clubbed sword, addressed the ball with gaze both firm and clear.
"Fly straight, thou orbed sprite ! " he cried aloud and struck with force that made the silence ring.
The ball did soar like Cupid's wayward shaft (snigger) and nestled sweet upon the emerald plain.
So ends our tale upon the grassy stage, where balls are stars and clubs are actor's blades.
If thou wouldst glory seek or honour find, then hie thee to the fairway's gentle war and strike thy truth upon the rolling green.
First of all apologies to those brave men who took up pen to report on their matches, but I decided to go off piste, in the hope that I don't get asked to report on a match again.
The score you say... well sadly this was like a Shakespearean tragedy as we lost 5 - 3.
The weather was like a Vincent Price horror movie.
The course was in great condition and I believe we all had a most enjoyable day.
Congratulations to the following for winning:
Tony Reeves & Kevin Walsh won 4 & 3
Andy Higginson & Roger Davies won 4 & 2 ( well Andy won & Roger watched )
Phil Hickley & David Drew won 4 & 3
For the rest it was a comedy of errors or struggling with the HUGE amount of shots given to the opposition.
Capt. Kev & Steve Mitchell lost 4 & 3
Graham Cork & Tony Denmead lost 2 & 1
Andy Cracknell & Malcolm Norton lost 4& 3
Simon Merriam & John Williams lost 4 & 3
Phil Boyland & Peter Jay lost 2 & 1
Special mention to Malcolm Norton who nearly had a hole in one on the 1st, but I don't think slicing it 40 yards to the left, out of bounds onto the practice putting green would have counted !
Until the next time dear friends.
Many thanks to Crackers for his inimitable report - we await, with eager anticuipation, the next one !!
