INTER CLUB MATCH v GOSFIELD - 25th JUNE

SbN        5     GOSFIELD         3

Another sunny day at SBN, Kevin welcomed the team from Gosfield Lakes

A sunny day calls for a sunny ditty :-

One fine day John and Don are out golfing when John slices a ball into a wooded ravine, he goes searching for his ball with a 7 iron in his hand.

The brush and trees are quite thick and then suddenly he spots something shiny in the undergrowth, he shuffles the undergrowth around and he sees a skeleton holding a 7 Iron as well

John excitedly calls out for Don his golfing partner, shouting I have got some real trouble down here, Don comes running over to the top of the ravine “ What’s the matter John? is everything Ok?”

John shouts back in a nervous voice “throw me my 8 Iron ! apparently you can’t get out of here with a 7”

 Hopefully lightens your day

Kevin Price and Keith Holmes  - Won 2 and 1

Keith had a steady game, once he had settled down and relaxed a bit. Captain Kev had an impressive round and this saw the pair over the finish line with some solid play.

Iain Gault and Steve Mitchell   - Won 2 and 1

Steve stepped in at the last minute (thank you Steve) only to find out that he and Iain were giving 12 and 16 shots to their opponents. It was a hard fought game and SBN were fortunate not to lose 3 holes on the front 9 as Gosfield missed a number of short putts. Iain on the other hand was hot with the putter and the team eventually sealed the match with a 2 – 1 victory.

Tony Denmead and Richard Middleton  - Lost 5 and 4

SBN played well for the first 2 holes then Gosfield started getting net birdies and the fight was knocked out of the SBNboys, enjoyable match however.

Ian McKay and Tony Emms - Lost 4 and 3

Game was played in good spirit but SBN were always chasing the match, going 3 down after 9 holes and they never recovered. A steady performance by SBN but the oppositionwere hitting good straight drives which always put SBN under pressure.

Eric Fisher and Mick Henry - Won 4 and 3

All square after 4th then SBN turned on the skill and won 5, 6 and 7 with long putts. We were 2 up after 9 then 3 up then 4 up, when would it stop ?  It did and the remaining holes were halved. Good fun.

Mal Jones and Ray Ludlam - Won 5 and 4

Great game and Ray found a soulmate in Andy from Gosfield who was a fellow Spurs supporter, Mal and John (from Gosfield) had to listen to all the Spurs banter. Mal was on top form and going 5 up at the turn was a good start to the back nine. SBN held on to the lead and ended the match with a convincing win

Nick Wright and Ian Bickers - Lost 4 and 3

Didn’t start too well on the 18 (our first hole) as Nick put his ball into the drink. Game was a see saw on front nine eventually ending 1 down after Gosfield holed an amazing putt just off the 9th Green. Few of the giveaway shots came into play in next few holes and SBN went 4 down, managed to stop the rot but damage was already done and tough hill to climb back up.

Tony Reeves and Paul Sheffield  - Won 2 and 1

Very competitive and close game all the way round never more than two holes in it but fortunately SBN held on to their lead and came home with a 2 and 1 win.

Many thanks to Nick Wright for taking on the responsibilities of reporting on the Gosfield match.
