INTER CLUB MATCH v CLACTON - AWAY - 22nd SEPTEMBER

SbN          2½        CLACTON          5½

Game 1 – Kevin Price & Andy Cracknell

After a slow start where we found ourselves 3 down after 4 holes, before we clawed it back to all square. The match remained very tight until Clacton went 1 up on the 15th. We took the match down to the 18th hoping for a half, sadly we lost the 18th to yet another shot. In the end, the number of shots conceded was too much to overcome.

Lost 2 Down

Game 2 – David Drew & Gordon Bryan

Game started with 2 wins and 2 loses, but we managed to take the lead and were 2 up at the turn. Our opponents Dave & Greg then started to take control and we lost 3 +1 – although it didn’t feel like it was that bad. When it was all over on the 18th, David attempted to putt from 30 feet, but hit his opponent’s ball and cannoned it into the hole for a 10 foot birdie !! Very enjoyable match and company.

Lost 3 + 1

Game 3 - Malcolm Norton & Roger Davies

Poorly Malcolm’s arm hindered his golf but not his moaning and whining! He wasn’t getting any sympathy so he started limping.

Craig’s wife got a hole-in-one, but it didn’t count as it was a Tuesday – such is life!

Won 1 Up

Game 4 - Bob Filer & Mal Jones

We knew we were going to have a long, painful match, when Ray, their 17 handicap, drove his ball onto the bridge on the 1sthole and ended up 50yrds further forward! He then proceeded to play to 4 under his handicap for the first nine. Sir Bob and Mal found themselves 5 down at the turn. Despite winning a few holes and halves, eventually we succumb to a 5 + 3 lose.

Lost 5 + 3

Game 5 – Alan Finlayson & Ray Ludlam

We were level pegging up to the 5th, then lost 5 holes on the trot. However, got the boys worried when we pulled it back to one, but then cocked-up the par 3 17th to lose 2 + 1, still a very enjoyable game of golf.

Lost 2 + 1

Game 6 – Iain Gault & Graham Cork

Started our match on the 17th hole, fluctuating fortunes saw us 3 down after 4 holes, only to bring it back to one up after 9 holes. A magnificent par 3 from Iain on the 7th tee, after a tee shot into the bunker and the 2nd staying there, managed to hole the next and might have been a turning point, but Bob getting 14 shots was relentless. 2 down with 3 to play, Graham salvaged a 4 to keep things going. Before Bob putted from way off the green to get a shot to close out the match.

Lost 2 + 1

Game 7 - Colin Pottle & Norman Davidson

Quick start off the 17th with Colin playing very well. Our hosts halved a couple of holes, eventually winning their first hole on the 8th. Both stoke boys going unbeaten, only losing one hole and shaking hands on the 11th. Great company, with some good old jokes thrown in.

Won 6 & 5

Game 8 – John Parkinson & Rob Swan

Started on the 17th and lost to a birdie, but J. P’s ball disappeared when we all saw it land on the right side of the fringe. Great match, nip and tuck, only ever one up from each team. Birdies for halves, pars chipped in, quality golf. Match halved was a fair and correct result. Tony & Bob good company.

Halved
