INTER CLUB MATCH v STOWMARKET - AWAY - 10th MARCH

STOWMARKET          5        SbN           3

A most successful first match of the year in every respect apart from the final result!

The fairways and greens were in good shape for early march , the opposition very friendly, if competitive and the pork carvery so filling that no puddings were entertained! All for the very reasonable price of £19 per head.

Matches were as follows …..

Captain Graham and Tony winning 3 & 2 after some good recovery play from trees with Graham making a crucial par on a par 5.

Tony & Kevin P lost 3 & 2 to, in their words, pleasant hosts who raced off to be 3 up after 3 holes. The remaining 15 holes were halved with 2 birdies from Tony, one holed from a bunker!

Ian & David lost 3 & 2 despite cutting back their opponents early lead of 4 up after 5 to only 2 up at one points.

Barry & Dick came back from 4 down after 11 holes to win with a sandy par on the 18th helped by Barrys trick shot out of the wire netting on the 16th for a par to halve the hole.

Malcolm & John W lost 3 & 2 (seems like a popular score !!) after coming back from 5 down after 9. Opponent Eddie said “I never usually play like that!!” – Lucky Eddie !!

Andy & Kevin W won 1 up after their early lead was eroded but won on the 18th hole by Kevins new par.

Phil & John lost 6 & 5 after yet another slow start from Stoke against a very good pair who parred most of the holes.

Tony & Peter lost by 3 & 2 giving away far too many shots to two very competitive and capable opponents.

So 3 wins and 5 losses – nearly all of the damage being done in the first 5 holes.

Many thanks to Barry Hitchcock on his report of the first Inter Club match of the season – never an easy match.
