INTER CLUB MATCH v HINTLESHAM - 29th JULY

HINTLESHAM       5½      SbN     2½

Match 1
Captain and Charlie. A fine and enjoyable match, played in great spirit, friendly yet competitive. Wily old fox Geoff kicked off with a par while getting a shot, and when the opposition skipper birdied the tough signature 4th hole we knew we had our work cut out.  Three down after 6,  a run of pars saw us reduce the gap to 1 at the turn, only to find ourselves back to 3 down standing on the 14th tee. However, cometh the hour……Charlie then produced some scintillating golf and we were level after 16. A tense final hole saw the skipper holing a pressure putt on the last to tie the match.

Match 2
Phil and Malcolm. The very dry conditions seemed to suit both our games and we finished 4 over gross. The boxes and greens were superb and the company was also great. Lovely match.

Match 3
Kevin W and Richard. A high quality match with all players under par and a minimum of a par needed to halve most holes. Home team had an early lead but stoke fought back be 2 up after 14. Unfortunately Hintlesham then won 3 of the next 4 holes to win 1 up. Excellent match against 2 very good players.

Match 4
Peter and Ian B. Sbn we're 4 down after 9 holes after starting on the 16th. managed to fight back to all square after 16 holes.sadly halved 17 then lost 18 to finish match 1 down .

Match 5
Ian G and Gordon. Very enjoyable game and close until 5 to go. We were 1 up then lost and all square with 4 to go. Lost next 2 so dormy and halved next hole to lose 2&1. Ian enjoyed himself in the sand without a spade. Company very good.

Match 6
Colin and Brian Game started well as Brian won the first hole then decided to not play for a number of holes. Luckily Colin was playing superbly and kept  us in the game for a lot of holes and fantastic putting. Brian occasionally joined in the game at the end  and walking down the last hole one up SBN looking good for the win until Brian stuck second shot in the bunker, ( but to be fair he spent most the game in the sand ). Brian nearly holed out with the bunker shot and put given then looking good again  until the opposition sunk a put off the green for a birdie and the hole and then match halved.
Great game.

Match 7
Tony and Del. 2 killer putts by Hintlesham of 20ft and 30ft that took the wind out of our sails.Del played well on his shot holes and lost last hole to square match. Never behind and always in front.

Match 8
Kevin P and David. A great up and down game. Hintlesham took an early lead to go 3 up after 4. We fought back valiantly to level match and then go 1 up. Only to promptly lose the next 4 to go back to 3 down.  3 wins by stoke took us down  last hole all square, however we sadly lost the 18th after Hintlesham playing got an up and down from the pond.
