As always, a friendly welcome awaited the team from Stoke and together with sunshine, the seaside and fish & chips made for a ‘Grand Day Out’.
The overall result rested on the score in the last match but Kevin Price and Phil Brennan, despite manfully fighting back from 5 down with 6 to play to be one down on the 18th , fell just short losing 2 down.
The other runners up on the day were; the Dream Team of Pete Hele and Phil Hickley, who offered no excuse except they were poor on the day losing 4 & 3, and the Dreamy team of Terry Mitchell and Trevor Waterhouse, also losing 4 & 3, offered plenty of excuses including Trevor bemoaning the fact that he birdied the 10th and lost the hole
Three matches were halved with the Captain and Peter Jay leading the way. Felixstowe Captain described the pair as ‘very pleasant’. Being damned with faint praise must make the Stoke boys feel good!
Lionel Hatch and Andy Cracknell could not talk their way to victory but they certainly talked a good story in the bar as to why they could not pull off a win. The most extraordinary aspect of this game was they were described by their opponents as a ‘delight’.
Allen Smith and Brian Roloff halved their match despite Allen having 3 gross birdies and Brian a net eagle on the 10th.
The two victories for Stoke were Richard Middleton & Adrian Cherry, winning by a dog licence, and the old stagers Alan Line & Norman Davidson winning 5 & 3. Norman spent the most of the front nine complaining ‘I just can’t drive and I should be at the driving range’ but after finding his drive and provisional on the 11th that should by all rights be lost. It was amazing how his demeanour change and he finished off the round in style.
It was an excellent day and many thanks to Felixstowe for the fine condition of the course, the catering and of course the weather.
Many thanks to Alan Line for his report on todays fun and games @ Felixstowe. Thanks Alan.
