‘SBN’ Seniors Match away to Frinton on Monday 6th of June 2022
After a long weekend of Jubilee celebrations the team headed for Frinton on a grey and gloomy morning with a real threat of rain which thankfully ‘held off’ for the majority of the match ! Anyone anticipating a ‘Links’ experience was disappointed as our recent weather has created green and ‘lush’ fairways, slower greens than perhaps expected and some pretty unfriendly rough if you failed to keep straight ! However, the course’s good condition could not be ‘linked’ (sorry) in any way to our performances.

Match 1 - Captain Pete and Vanders.
Parred the first but lost the hole ! Pete stepped in with an excellent short game to give a ‘glimmer of hope’ but the match was ‘closed out’ by the Frinton Captain with net birdies.
Lost 2 and 1

Match 2 - Ex Captain Terry and Brian W.
We were 4 down after 5 holes and the ‘SBN’ mood was just like the weather. The position improved marginally after Brian’s birdie on the par 3, 8th but this was short-lived and we were 5 down walking onto the 12th tee. Winning the 12th and halving the next two holes threatened an unlikely comeback and so it proved to be with opponents, Pete and Mick, back to winning ways on the 15th.
Match lost 5 & 3
PS One positive was Terry winning a tube of balls in the post match raffle to replace those he’d lost earlier !!!

Match 3 - Paul and Colin
Colin played very well and despite having no shots ‘took it apart’. Paul suggested ”he will need a back massage after carrying me for 18 holes”. Eventually Paul started to play with 3 holes to go but once again in Paul’s words “Well done Colin”
Match won 2 and 1

Match 4 - Malcolm and Phil
Despite the scoreline the match was a very close affair. Opponent John ‘rolled in’ a 40 foot putt to beat Malcolm’s birdie attempt on the 3rd and putting was the key to Frinton’s win
Match lost 6 and 4

Match 5 - Brian R and Trevor

We enjoyed a good game considering we were giving away 15 and 6 shots to the opposition. The course was in great condition and despite losing we felt we did well to keep up with the ‘Frinton Boys’
Match lost 2 and 1

Match 6 - Adrian and David
It was ‘The David Seymour Day’ according to Adrian. He had a slow start, apparently hungover ? Dave went 3 down but then started to feel better. Starting at the 9th he won the next six holes to go 3 up to finish the match on the 17th. Dave will talk you through his round if you ask him.
Seems like Adrian was a supportive spectator ???
Match won 2 and 1

MATCH 7 - Gordon & Phil
A good competitive game against Geoff and Charlie - never more than one hole in it. Charlie’s 5 net 4 on the 18th halved a match played in the right spirit. Phil’s birdie on the par 5th 17th set us up for the win but unfortunately Gordon couldn’t rise to the occasion (his one chance to contribute)
Match halved

Match 8 - Peter and John
John worked hard through to keep the score very tight despite giving away far too many shots. ‘Nip & tuck’ until the 17th hole

Lost by 1 hole
