Captain Pete gathered his team of 8 pairs to play at Gosfield Lakes GC. The SBN original team had considerably changed using up all five reserves. 
With both teams sitting down to coffee on arrival the Gosfield captain Colin Cooper welcomed all players announcing the first four teams would start from the 1st tee and the last four teams would start from 10th tee at 8.30. Handicaps had been adjusted at 90% with play from yellow tees.

The split field would ensure we all sat down to lunch and leave by 3pm.

1st hole start

Pete and Mal Jones taking on Colin and Chris Turk (both in shorts) despite the wind chill the pairing obviously had calculated the sun would shine.
Pete’s moment of glory cam on the par 3 fifth hole with a friendly branch redirecting his ball back onto the Green leaving a 5’ putt for par. Unfortunately those lucky shots didn’t last and the SBN pair conceded 4&3.

We got off to a slow start and were 2 down after 2. But we stabilised and got back to all square after 5. But with one of our opponents parring or birdieing every par 3(including 2 almost holes in one - one 18 inches away and about 3 feet) and his partner making full use of his 13 shots We couldn't keep pace

Game 2
Eric & Adrian Cherry giving away 10 shots.
The 1st saw Adrian sink a 20’ birdie to give us the honour on the second hole, only to be all square by the 3rd tee and that hole halved. The 4th saw Eric birdie the par 5 to go one up and by the 7th hole that lead had moved to +4 after 10 holes it was back to +2. The 14th Si 1 was match decider with Adrian’s drive looking to go out of bounds, only to be found centre fairway, a thinned iron into a lateral hazard amazingly was found where he hacked the ball to edge of the green and a 20’ putt clinched the match with his shot in hand.

Final result GL 6 1/2. To SBN 1 1/2.

There was a nearest the pin on 17th won by Dave Totman to within 18”.

The meal was hunters chicken main followed by some excellent deserts & coffee. 
Surprise to both captains was the GS (Goss Stoke) cup an excellent trophy kept in Gosfields trophy cabinet which dated back many years (see attached). Some seniors may recall this trophy presented by Derek Pryke for mixed matches between both clubs.
