SBN 3½      COLCHESTER 4½

Was a beautiful sunny day and the Constable course was in excellent condition

Match 1     Pete Robins & Roger Davies     Lost 6 / 4

Roger was not a happy camper complaining that Capt Pete and Capt Nick went on and on about the previous match played at Colchester.  Apart from Capt Nick’s myriad of pars (net birdies) there was not a lot to report from this match. Lovely company but the good guys lost, Capt Nick was pleased Capt Pete wasn’t.

Match 2     Brian Roloff & Tony Denmead      Lost 2 up

A very close game with only one hole in it through 17 holes. We both had our moments but struggled to cope with their 22 handicapper when he started knocking in the net birdies for fun. A very enjoyable few hours though.

Match 3     Paul Sheffield & John Simpson    Lost 5 / 4

SBN won the first two holes but then they fought back and were three up at the turn, we managed to half four of the back nine but they held on for the win.

Match 4     Ian McKay & Phil Boyland       Match halved

Phil started a friendly match with a birdie on the first. From there, lots of halved holes. Ian hit a shot straight at the pin on the 8th and was worried that it might go in, no confirmation about the putt. No more that one hole either way. Phil got another birdie on 15 and Ian narrowly missed birdie putts on 16 and 17, this left our opponents to hole a monster putt on the last to halve the game.

Match 5     Robin Nicholson & John Jardine     Won 3 / 2

It was a very close game, as John gave 12 shots to the opponents we were only ever 2 in front until well into the back nine. Basically the SBN guys played well and secured “ a Scottish victory”.  Not sure if that last bit is allowed.

Match 6     Graham Vandervord & Tony Carman      Won 3 / 1

GV, still smarting about his 3 shot cut won the first hole and we never looked back. GV chipped and putted well including a 42 foot birdie on the 11th.

Match 7     Trevor Waterhouse & Malcolm 48 point Norton     Won 6 / 5

Trev and Malc really gelled together today, their opponents were Kevin and John, both very nice chaps however this didn’t stop them copping a birdie and seven par onslaught on the front nine. The back nine was even better with two birdies and seven pars for a convincing win.

Match 8     Andy Cracknell & Skikhar Chatrath       Lost 2 / 1

Very close match played in excellent spirit. Unfortunately we found ourselves three down after six thanks to some excellent putting from Colchester’s Barry. We managed to claw it back to one down at the turn thanks to Skikhar using his shots. Funniest thing was how they called him SHRIFTER for the entire round.

Many thanks to Tony Denmead for his report of todays match - thanks Tony.
