We started out with real trepidation, if not dread of getting drowned....however, at least our early crew almost escaped undrenched. Course played well, and food was fine, bar maybe the child size chicken pie.
Malcolm & Colin had a tight game for 7 holes then Malc advised Colin he was needed so he switched off...problem was, so did Malc. Suddenly they were 4 down and never recovered. Best bit was avoiding the rain entirely.
Lost 5&4
Bob & Iain . What a front 9!..jelling in well. Bob birdied the silly sloping 8th.over the pond, and by the ninth were 5 up winning 6 on the spin.
Won 6&4
Dick & Phil dovetailed like a blind carpenter! Phil couldn't putt and Dick couldn't hit a fairway, but somehow they kept in touch and were only one down with one to play, but true to form Dick made the rough and Phil missed a putt for a half.....Oh dear!
Lost 2 down
Phil & Ian had a friendly game, and enjoyed the generosity at the half way hut. They putted well, and put up a couple of birdies to keep ahead all the way.
Won 5&3
Del & Gordon had an even front 9 making all square. The opposition had some 20ft putts finding the hole which they may have thought lucky!! Del tried to stage a comeback but to no avail...so over by 17th.
Lost 3&1
Bill & Brian went from 4 down back to 1 but no good ..couldn't handle giving 18 shots to one player, then getting wet through at 17.
Lost 2&1
John & Phil saw John play like God, going 4 up, but Benton pulled back to go 2 up....both decided to take it to the last putting both balls in the pond! Losing the last.
All square
Peter & Alan...never more than one in the match. Benton man off 25 getting net Eagle. Our boys flourished however in the heavy rain!
Win 2 up
Many thanks to (Sir) Bob for his great report of todays match with Benton Hall - cheers Bob
