MONTHLY STABLEFORD - CONSTABLE - 10th APRIL

Charity is the winner in Seniors competition

There could only really be one charity to benefit from Seniors Captain John Parkinson’s year in office.

John has, of course, chosen Parkinson’s UK and with World Parkinson’s Day celebrated on April 11 each year, what better way to support it than by dedicating this month’s Seniors Stableford competition to it.

With blue being the colour adopted by the charity, John encouraged every one of the 70 players taking part to wear something blue, leading to a colourful procession round the Constable course.

And with everything in place – there could really only be one winner on the day, John Parkinson himself with 39 points to claim victory in Division 1 - “It was a rare day when not much went wrong for me”

Behind John in Division 1 were Ross Buchanan (36), Phil Boyland (35) and Tony Denmead (35).

Andy Wood won Division 2 with 38 points, "Great, the first time I've won anything" second was John Jardine with 35, third was Richard Allen on 29 and fourth was Terry Mitchell on 29.

The twos putt winners were:

- Tony Carman - Hole 5

- Eric Fisher - Hole 8

- Mark Boyland - Hole 8

- Paul Shefield - Hole 13

- Phil Boyland - Hole 18

The winners of the Nearest the Pins were:

- Tony Denmead - Hole 5 (bottle of wine)

- Mark Boyland - Hole 8 (bottle of wine)

- Adrian Ault - Hole 13 (bottle of wine)

The winner of the Nearest the Pin in 2 on 18th was Phil Boyland whose birdie prize pack included a pack of 3 balls, cap, tees, and pencil.

Some players further back in the field had a slow round over 5 hours, this is a perennial problem in golf slow play. We are therefore exploring options, such as making future Senior Stablefords 3 balls to help keep things flowing better.

John said “During the event, I had the pleasure of meeting senior member Stanley Bradshaw and SbN chef John Smith (no, not our very own J Smith) for the first time. Both are living with Parkinson's disease, and it was great to catch up with them and learn more about how they are coping. They were very appreciative of our efforts to raise money and awareness of Parkinson's disease. Speaking of which, the total we raised on the day was over £500! Thank you so much for your generosity, money is still coming in.”
