COMMITTEE CUP - BURNHAM ON CROUCH 28th AUGUST
The senior section held their committee cup, for members who served on the old committee, the current captain’s helpers and a few carefully selected guests who regularly support the section.
It was a particularly testing journey to Burnham with an overturned lorry causing serious tailbacks on the A12. This delayed a number of people, but in the end, 21 people were able to tee off, pretty much on time. Although the traffic delays only claimed one of our group, it did leave a number of others feeling quite flustered!
30 minutes into our round, the large black clouds could be seen gathering over the River Crouch, and indeed the prevailing wind sent them in our direction, resulting in some very sodden players. Fortunately, it blew over after 20-25 minutes leaving the rest of the afternoon bright, but breezy.
Although not overly long, Burnham did prove quite a testing track, particularly the greens, which compared to Stoke, ran at lightning speeds, with many putts sailing past the hole.
After golf, we enjoyed a very tasty dinner before senior captain Kevin Price, said a few words and announced the winner.
Nobody was able to play to their handicap, but a few ran it close. Many congratulations to Gordon Bryan, who was pick of the bunch with 35 points..
