MONTHLY STABLEFORD - 8th JANUARY

Many thanks to the majority of players who braved the arctic conditions to play in this month’s stableford competition. Temperatures barely climbed above zero and the greens were as frozen at the close of play as they were at the start. As if the freezing conditions weren’t bad enough, it became necessary to navigate a path through the clumps of ice that had fallen off people’s shoes and were now littering the greens.

The scores reflected the conditions, with only a handful of players registering 30 points or above. A huge round of applause for Phil Hickley, who strolled home to win  Div 1 by 4 shots with 33 points. In second place was Paul Sandfield with 29 points, closely followed by Tony Denmead, scoring 28.

In Div 2, Andy Caldwell was victorious winning on countback from Robert Ogles, with both players scoring 32 points. Roger Fleuty came 3rd in Div 2 with 30 points.

Robert Ogles also managed to birdie the par 3 third hole, no mean feat given that stopping your ball anywhere near the green was a challenge.

Tony Carman was the NTP winner on the seventh, but surprisingly, did not feature in the 2’s pot, with 5 players all claiming a share of the spoils; one lucky individual claiming a pair of 2’s!

The winners will receive their awards at the May prize-giving luncheon.

Many thanks to Kevin Price who provided today’s report.
