COMMITTEE CUP - 28th AUGUST

THORPNESS GOLF CLUB

Committee Cup 2026 a

The senior section held their annual Committee Cup at Thorpeness Golf Club, for members who have served  old committees, the current captain’s helpers and a few carefully selected guests who provide the Captain with outstanding support.

This year’s renewal of the Committee Trophy competition saw twenty stalwarts of the Seniors gather at Thorpeness. For the second consecutive day, we feared that a deluge of Biblical proportions was imminent, and indeed, as the captain approached the first tee, the first spots of rain were starting to fall. But the sun shines on the righteous, and so it proved (or some might say disproved), as it stopped almost immediately and the day’s golf ended finished in the glorious sunshine, the only interruption to the clear blue sky being the famous, but on this occasion inaptly named, House in the Clouds, providing a dramatic backdrop to the 18th green.

With all the dry weather over the Summer, there was a lot of run on the ball, often, as we have seen at Stoke, going to places where one wishes it wouldn’t. However, this did not stop Kevin Price, who played solidly throughout, recording a fine 39 points, to lift the iconic trophy, finishing three ahead of Eric Fisher (who thoughtfully removed any need to measure who was nearest the pin on two on the 17th by holing his second shot) and John Parkinson.

The golf was followed by a delicious dinner – your correspondent particularly enjoyed the apple crumble - and we left eagerly anticipating the 2027 meeting.
