Essex Seniors Team Championship - Chigwell - June 26

ESSEX SENIORS TEAM CHAMPIONSHIP v CHIGWELL - 11th JUNE

CHIGWELL        10             SbN         1

Those who played at Cromer in the Vice Captain’s tour will recall the dire weather forecast for that day. Similarly unpromising conditions were predicted for our eagerly awaited match at Chigwell, but nature once again surprised us, with no significant rain after around 1pm, meaning that most matches did not need the umbrellas.

Right from the start, it looked like the Chigwell team were in good form, drive after drive going long and straight down the fairway of the 467 yard par four first hole. Stoke fought hard, and at the half way point, we were very much in contention, however, home advantage told on the back nine and gradually our leads were eroded, Chigwell running out comfortable winners. The 10-1 scoreline doesn’t tell the full story: many of the matches were quite close affairs (although it has to be said that some weren’t): it was just one of those days when each member of the opposition brought their “A” game with them.

Many thanks to Chigwell, who were excellent hosts and their course, in superb condition was a pleasure to play. And thanks to everyone who took part, your support for the team is very much appreciated.

Many thanks to Seniors Captain, Graham Cork, for not only his report on what was clearly a tough day but also organising and captaining the SbN team in this years competition - thanks Graham.
