The second Capt/Pro match this year got under way on a warm and sunny morning on the Gainsborough course with the challengers Allen Smith and Mike Moore. This was a repeat match for Professional Taylor who was looking for revenge from last year; this was clear from the first tee when he nearly drove the green.

The first three holes were halved with pars but on the fourth hole, Allen won it with a par to take the challengers one up. Captain Pete and Taylor played well for the next three holes but great golf from Allen kept them at bay with halves. Taylor won the eighth hole with a birdie to square the match and then Captain Pete won the ninth hole with a par to go one up at the turn.

Allen won the tenth hole and Mike won the eleventh to go one up. The twelfth was halved then Captain Petewon the thirteenth with a nett birdie to bring the match back to all square.

The fourteenth was the turning point in the match with Allen winning it to go one up. The final four holes were all halved so Allen and Mike won the match just one up.

It was an enjoyable and close match, played in a sporting manner with never more than one hole in it either way. Many thanks to Taylor for giving up his valuable time and Allen and Mike for their generous donation to Captain Pete’s charity.
