SbN         5      Felixstowe       3

On a baking hot day the intrepid bunch from Felixstowe ventured down the A12 to try to consolidate their narrow success in their home leg.
The course was playing hard and fast, which made for some interesting bounces, and some unusually short clubs into greens on some holes; but once on board the greens were excellent, fairly receptive and putting true.
Unfortunately for Felixstowe, they were unable to replicate their home success with SbN winning 5 to 3, which also clinched the aggregate win for SbN at 8.5 to 7.5. Doubtless Felixstowe will be seeking revenge next year.

Closest to the pin on the 8th was won by Barry Hitchcock

Story of the day as follows:

Group 1: Pete Robins & Steve Ling – Won 3&2
Dominant performance by SbN saw them dormie 6, but a spirited fightback by Felixstowe pegged them back to 3 with two to play. The Captain played a blinder according to Steve (as he pocketed the fiver).

Group 2: Iain Gault & Paul Sheffield – Lost 3&2
Tight match all square through 13, then 23 handicapper Gary (with 12 shots) parred 14 and 15 and finished it off with a birdie at 16! We have already reported him to the Handicap Secretary!

Group 3: Ian Bickers & Kevin Walsh – AS
An undulating match on an undulating course. SbN 3 up through 13, but a fightback by Felixstowe saw them win 3 out of the next four. An honourable half on the 18th saw the match finish all square.

Group 4: Richard Middleton & Skikhar Chatrath – Lost 2&1
SbN 2 up at the turn but had a poor inward half. Skikhar lost his swing according to Richard (have either of them ever had one, I hear you ask!), and Felixstowe turned it round to win 2&1.

Group 5: Dick Lumsden & Ian McKay – AS
Despite being 4 down after 4, Ian maintains this was a closely fought and well played match full of bad bounces! Dick sank a crucial putt on 18 to secure the half.

Group 6: Colin Dallas & Norman Davidson – Won by 1 hole
In Norman, Colin said he finally found a partner to help him pop his Seniors Inter-Club cherry (?). SbN raced ahead to 3 up through 3 only to be pegged back. All square through 11 and 17 they finally sealed the deal on the 18th. “Norman chipped like a demon” said Colin.

Group 7: Barry Hitchcock & Mal Jones – Won 4&3
Mal played superbly and SbN were 5 up through the turn. Felixstowe fought back well but SbN persevered and closed the match out on the 15th to win 4&3.

Group 8: Brian Roloff & Phil Brennan – Won 5&4
Close through 9 but SbN killed the match off quickly to win 5&4 giving SbN our biggest winning margin.

Many thanks to Iain Gault for taking on the responsibilities of reporting on this match - thanks Iain.
