Tough match with very little given away. Match was nip and tuck until latter holes. Hintlesham captain Dave and his partner John were excellent company.
David showed his concern at playing against a single handicap golfer, fully justified when we watched Simon tee off on the first tee, fortunately a good putt from Ray halved the hole, David then won 2 and 3 and Ray won the par 5 fourth, an excellent shot from Simon straight on to the green on the 5th and Hintlesham pulled one back. A funny thing happened on the 6th we could not find two balls, maybe the guys playing the 4th hole did not check their balls - a note for the future !!! Peter, I think we were 3 up at the turn, won 2 other holes and finished 5 & 4 winners mainly due to our long one putts when needed to half the hole. A funny thing happened on the 16th Simon looked at his watch and said two fifty nine Ray replied it cannot be that late we have not been playing slow, David said thats the yardage you "....... ....."
Gordan started slowly but Richard hit the ground running and SBN were soon in a comfortable lead. At the turn we were 5 up. Gordan started playing by the 4th which gave Richard's back a rest and we started dovetailing. It was all over by the 13th, Hintlesham had not won a hole, their views on the match are unprintable.
Good start by both pairs, halved the first, HS 1 up after 2 then all square after 3 SBN loosing 4th and 5th (to Birdie Pete) thats our Pete standing in for HS. SBN 3 down after 9 holes with just 2 halves. 10th hole saw a huge drive from Tony leaving just a wedge, score back to minus 2. 11th saw Eric sink a birdie to bring score back to minus 1. 12th saw HS par (score -2) SBN won 14th (-1)
15th birdied by you know who "Pete" (-2) 16th hole driven by Tony to half hole. 17th won with a par (-1) Pete choosing to play all 3 fairway bunkers. 18th at last a chance to half the match. Was not to be with bogies keeping the match at (-1) Well done Dave Tynan and the substitute.
Very close match played in excellent spirit. Just after the turn Andy and Trevor found themselves 3 down but fought back superbly to all square with the match going down to the 18th. Trevor sank a tricky putt to leave the match halved.
Rob had a hot front nine with the putter then retired weary at the 9th then Brian began a string of pars to clinch a 5 & 4 victory.
A comfortable victory saw the home team seal victory on the 14th. We were seldom under pressure and reached the turn 5 up. 2 wins, 2 losses and a half on the back 9 were enough for victory.
Great game against Mike and Bob very close all the way round. Terry's par on the 18th (having slipped off the tee) reserved a half in the match which was played in excellent spirit.
