MATCH 1 Pete Robins and Ray Firth didn’t stand a chance against Alan and Andy through the first 10 holes as their opponents recorded 8 pars; 1 birdie and 1 bogey so the match was lost 9&8
MATCH 2 The two Colins started well and were 2-up through 3 but were level at the turn. They went 2 down at 11 and the match stayed that way with a loss 2&1. The two C’s were no match for ‘Bandito Brian’ playing off a 24 handicap who they had to give 11 shots.
MATCH 3 Steve and Trevor lost 6&5. They had to give their opponent Mike 11 shots and he putted well throughout to win the match.
MATCH 4 Andy and John had a tightly fought match played in good spirit. They were 3 up with 4 to play but Brian, for The Warren, was playing off a handicap of 4 and sank long putts on 15, 16 and 18 for Birdies to square the match.
MATCH 5 Shergar and Alan lost 3&2 after a very close match. Apparently the loss was due to Alan not being able to drive (although he was level par after 7 holes).
MATCH 6 David & Ray lost 5&4. The day got off to a bad start with Mr Ludlum pranging his wife’s car on the way to the course. He never quite got over this! Despite a good start they were soundly beaten but it was a good round of social golf. Ray went home early for a quiet chat with the missus……
MATCH 7 Dick and John lost by 1. A good match played in good spirit throughout which was very close all the way round. Dick and John dovetailed well and were 1-up after 11 but then lost 4 in a row in a mid-round wobble. Went to Dormy 3. John won the 16th and 17th to take the match to the last hole which was halved. Match over - finished 1 down.
MATCH 8 Hurrah, a win for SBN pairing Adrian and Brian!!! A close round with Adrian driving like a pro whilst Brian played the silent bystander. After being 3-down they reached the 18th all square where Adrian drove the green to enable SBN to win the match 1-up.
It was a very enjoyable day, despite the result, and was made better by the excellent food served afterwards.
Many thanks to Colin Pottle for his report on todays match. Thanks Colin.
