A small though for the day :-
I suppose golf is a sport, technically, sure.
But we both know it’s so much more.
It is just a game, on paper, you’re right.
And yet we play all day and toil at night.
From Palmer to Nicklaus; Tiger to McIlroy,
The game of golf is one of happiness and joy.
And then there’s you and me, early on rainy Sundays;
We love this game every day, even if we hate it some days.
We pray in vain to our driver on the tees,
And beg our putter to behave upon the greens.
We watch our heroes on the TV screens,
Because we know they know what golf means
The day started off with the thoughts of playing golf on a nice sunny day however a few specks or rain did not dampen the Stoke By Nayland team who took to the Constable course to rage battle against the folk from Felixstowe Ferry Golf
Group 1
Win 4 and 3
Captain Norton and a late stand in Brian Roloff gelled together very well and parred majority of holes going 3 up on the turn even they were giving shots away to Felixstowe they played so well on front 9 they were 1 over gross and finished up the 18 holes with a score of 45 points betterball including 1 blob
Group 2
Lost 4 and 3
Close match for Nick and Kevin who were receiving shots from Felixstowe and match was like a YoY o as SBN were down then up and by the 7th it was a very close comp. Felixstowe finally going 1 up and then a stunning birdie on the 9th put Felixstowe in a 2up position on the turn. Kevin had a few putts which rolled around the hole . Match finally was lost on the 15 as Felixstowe team both played well above handicap
Group 3
Won 5 and 3
Mike and Peter went 2 up at the turn with both getting Birdies on the 8th, game was closed on the 15th and by all accounts Mike played like a god. Match was once again played in good spirits
Group 4
Won 3 and 2
Steve and Ian were giving away an incredible 21 shots to Felixstowe but managed to go 3 up very early in the match however Felixstowe fought back and bought the match back to all square on the turn, they then went 1 up but Steve and Ian won the next 4 holes on the trot winning the match on the 16th
Group 5
Won 2 and 1
Bob and Terry were evenly matched against Felixstowe in shots however Bob was inspirational again and in sparkling form. In fact a memorable fact from the match was Terrys putt on the second which hit the pin and by all accounts if the pin had not been there his ball would have carried on to the 7th green. The pairing dovetailed very well winning the match on the 17th
Group 6
Won 3 and 1
Andy and John were giving shots away to Felixstowe and game was very tight, game was played in a very friendly spirit and was very closely contended with SBN finally winning the match on the 17th which they both parred
Group 7
Won 3 and 2
Phil and Adrian - sorry did not manage to get a report of this match as I think the call of the Roast Pork and excellent Crackling was more important than a report but SBN won this match
Group 8
Won 4 and 3
Eric and Dick went out with similar handicaps to the Felixstowe team and was a very close front 9 however with Pars and Birdies on nearly all the back nine, including two 4 pointers from Dick secured the match for SBN
Congratulations to David Quinlan of Felixstowe for winning nearest the pin on the 8th
Congratulations to Peter Hele for winning nearest the pin for SBN on the 13th
Lunch was a very enjoyable carvery with all the trimmings and very crunchy crackling.
