INTER CLUB MATCH v BENTON HALL - CONSTABLE - 17TH JUNE

SbN        4      Benton Hall       4

Opening the curtains this morning to a strange yellow orb in the sky. It couldn't be the dawn of a fine Summer's day could it? Well, it has to start some time!
VC Kevin Price during morning coffee gave us all hope of fine conditions and the Constable course playing well. Split tee starts for a change, with Matches 1-5 starting on the 1st Hole, 6-8 from the 17th Hole. It seemed to work well with everyone getting back for lunch at a reasonable time.
---------------------------------------------------------------
MATCH 1 – Kevin Price & Dave Drew – Won 2 Up
Never more than 1 up until the last hole. Kevin in particular played some terrific golf, holing monster putts on the 9th and 11th.
MATCH 2 – Mick Henry & Tony Emms – Lost 2&1
against Trump & Biden - Uncanny likeness
Started the first 5 holes well, 1 up, lost the plot a bit in the middle to go 1 down, before getting back to All Square thanks to Tony's par on the 13th. Biden won the match for BH with a pitch from 125 yards landing 3ft away and holing out for a 4 net 3. Rory take note! Match played in good spirit and World War 3 has been averted!
MATCH 3 – Andy Cracknell & Dave Seymour – Lost 6&5
Absolutely taken to the cleaners by Dick Turpin and his mate. Enough said. Where are BH getting these guys from??
MATCH 4 – Peter Hele and Terry Mitchell – Lost 1 Down
A very enjoyable contest in the sunshine. 1 up at the turn. Although 2 up by the 14th, BH clawed it back to All Square on the 17. A 4 net 3 was just enough to take the contest at the last.
MATCH 5 – Iain Gault and Gordon Bryan – Won 2&1
A very enjoyable game with Nigel and Dave. Close all the way through until we went 2 ahead and see out the win. Dave sank at least 4 10-20 foot putts, but we won with some good dovetailing.
MATCH 6 – Phil Boyland & Phil Brennan – Lost 2&1
A close match throughout eventually losing to some good putting in the end.
MATCH 7 – Andy Higginson & Graham Cork – Won 7&5
Andy and Graham got off to a flyer against Trevor and Colin, winning the first 4 holes and eventually closing out the match. Played in a friendly spirit. Graham was sensational today, the holiday has done him good!
MATCH 8 – Tony Carman & Mike Clare – Won 1 Up
1 Up after one hole, then always losing until the 15th before winning 1 Up at the end. Paul from BH lost his 5 iron 20ft in a tree at one point. Allegedly it slipped out of his hands!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Honours even after a friendly match. The Constable course has improved a lot in the last few weeks, with the greens playing very well and fairways looking and playing good, with compliments from our playing opponents.
Lunch of Roast Gammon enjoyed by all, apart from your reporter who had the veggie option which was also very nice on a warmish Summer's day for once.

Many thanks to Mike Henry for his report of todays match - thanks Mick
