INTER CLUB MATCH v FRINTON - CONSTABLE - 21st AUGUST
SbN 6 FRINTON 2
The day started badly. Ten minutes to tee off & SBN were a man down. Phil Boyland (AKA David McCallum) hadn't turned up. The problem was solved by supersub Alex Giddens. Keep calm & carry on we thought, but oh no...then Lionel walks in wearing Pauline's shorts...yeah you've seen them....don't think he gets out much !
MATCH 1 - Captain John & Eric Fisher
Giving away a multitude of shots, this game didn't start well with SBN finding themselves 4 down after 4. Our boys fought back winning 11 & 12 until Frinton's Peter skimmed the pond on 16 & put his 2nd 3 inches from the pin for a 3 & 2 victory for Frinton. John & Eric had never played against Mexican bandits !
MATCH 2 - Andy Cracknell & Paul Sheffield
Another match where we gave away many shots (there's a theme here). Frinton's John looked like he needed his 15 shots with his 200 yard drives & a whole host of net birdies. I thought Paul was going to write our report but given the steam coming from his ears, I thought it was more sensible for me to do it. We managed to apply some pressure to John by giving him a knee trembler of a putt on 16 which he duly missed. 2 up with 2 to play we held on for a 2 & 1 victory.
MATCH 3 - John Williams & Dick Lumsden
No problems here for SBN. After the first 2 holes were halved our boys steamrollered the opposition, shaking hands on 13 for a fantastic 6 & 5 win. Superb golf from both JW & Dick.
MATCH 4 - Mike Clare & Mick Henry
I think the Clare household had run out of Kellogs this morning. The only time our boys were level in this match was on the 1st tee. Frinton's Jeffery (25 handicap) played an absolute blinder. He's their captain next year so watch out. Sadly our boys went down 3&2.
MATCH 5 - Ian Gault & Lionel Hatch
Apparently Lionel excelled!!! Please forgive any spelling mistakes from this point on as I've still got tears in my eyes where I've been rolling on the floor for half an hour laughing my head off. Anyway our boys were 2 up at the turn & then won 11 & 14. A good match was finished on the 15th with a fine 5&3 victory for SBN.
MATCH 6 - John Jardine & Simon Merriam
Familiar territory here for JJ with our boys 3 down after 5. The good news is that the fightback began & they were level after 10.
The lead changed hands a few times but with SBN 1 up with 1 to play they held on for a fine win.
MATCH 7 - Kevin Price & Brian Roloff
Despite losing their first hole (17th) to a nett birdie, Brian apparently let that bounce off him (like to have seen that !) & then putted majestically. KPVC2J then came in with a few wins himself & steady play from our boys led to a comfortable 3&2 win.
MATCH 8 - Alex Giddens & Kevin Walsh
After losing the 1st SBN feared the worst. However, steady play from both Alex & Kevin enabled them to build a 5 shot lead, which they held to record a 5&3 victory. Special thanks to Alex for stepping in at the last minute. You are surely the Man of the Match.
A good day enjoyed by all & a fine 6 - 2 victory for SBN.
Many thanks to Crackers for a superb report of the Frinton match. Thanks Andy.
