Colchester 5 SbN 3
Trap 1 - won 2 up
Steady Eddie Paul Sandfield supported our Captain to victory. The dagger to the heart of the opposition coming from the captain who chipped in on the 14th
Trap 2 - lost 2&1
The black cloud that regularly follows your reporter on the golf course managed to cover Malcolm for the start of this match also, SBN going 4 down on the front 9. Some inspired putting reduced the deficit but the longest hitter in the group( and highest handicapper) closed the match out on the 17th for Colchester
Trap3 - won 1 up
The youthful Crackers (supported by the mature Phil Brennan) won the 18th and the match after quite a tussle. The victor was not lost for words
Trap 4 lost 3&1
Graham Cork was in good form but he and Allen succumbed to a strong pair from Colchester, who dovetailed exceptionally well. This game also witnessed a bunker shot worthy of a win
Trap 5 lost 2&1
A nip & tuck game that was settled on the greens by some brilliant putting from the Colchester pair. An emotional Williams & Emms were inconsolable in the clubhouse- the victims of “unbelievable putting”.
Trap 6 lost 1 down
Roger reported that everything was lovely (he weather being a notable exception). Derek was contacted for feedback but reported that he was very tired having carried a heavy weight in trying conditions.
Trap 7 won 1 up
The dream team of lefties were victorious on the last. An exciting match where no pair had more than a one shot lead swung one way and then the other. SBN’s lefties making superior fitness tell on the last.
Trap 8 lost 4&3
Dick Lumsden offered an Eric Morecombe response when initially asked for opinion “Rubbish” After further thought our pair did recollect a terrific birdie 2 on the 4th hole by Peter Hele. However it was a false dawn and the Stoke pair were always chasing the game.
A lovely fixture with Colchester was concluded after a pleasant meal by a rousing speech by captain John Parkinson.
