Inter Club Match v Hintlesham - Gainsborough - 8th May

SbN            4           HINTLESHAM       4

Match 1 - Malcolm Norton, Allen Smith

Malcolm slipped seamlessly back into the Captain’s role leading our opening pair to a convincing loss. “Despite our valliantefforts, we lost to the better men on the day."

Result – Lost 5 &4

Match 2 - Sir Bob, Tony Denmead

The result speaks for itself, halved the first two holes then outplayed our opponents by winning the next four, Seriously we jelled very well and a couple of birdies certainly helped the cause. Simon and Dave were excellent company.

Result – Won 6 & 4

Match 3 - Alan Line, Paul Sandfield

Alan started like a train and we ended the first nine two up. After a fightback by Hintlesham we were able to get ahead on the sixteenth but pars on seventeen and eighteen were good enough to give Hintlesham the win.

Result – Lost 1 down

Match 4 - Tony Emms, Colin Pottle

A really close game throughout. A surge in the back nine by SBN sealed the win. Hintlesham’s joker kept up the spirits with his endless stories & jokes but didn’t put us off. Great game, great visitors.

Result – Won 4 & 2

Match 5 - Terry Mitchell, Graham Cork

A hard fought match played in excellent spirit. A tight front nine ended with Hintlesham one up before SBN had a purple patch going three up after thirteen. This prompted a great fightback from Hintlesham who brought it back to all square through sixteen. The last two holes were halved for a very fair result.

Result – Halved

Match 6 - Iain Gault, John Jardine

Always behind, three down after four, got it back to one but eventually lost the match. Just too many shots given to cope with when the opposition played well.

Result – Lost 2 & 1

Match 7 - Phil Boyland, Peter Jay

An early SBN lead was key in this match. PJ was rock steady leaving Hintlesham unable to make any progress.

Icing on the cake was Phil winning the SBN nearest the pin .

Result – Won 3 & 2

Match 8 - Dave Drew, Dick Lumsden

A very close game all the way. We lost the first (18th) while we were still working out the weird starting position. We then traded holes for a long time before eventually going one up after thirteen. We were pegged back and it stayed all square till the end.

Result – Halved

Overall the result was a draw, however with the course improving, the sun making an appearance and some excellent food I think we were all winners on the day.

Many thanks to Tony Denmead on his excellent reporting of today’s match. Thanks Tony
