Inter Club Match v Ipswich - Home - 12th April

SbN 5 Ipswich GC 1

It was great to welcome the return of Purdis Health (Ipswich) Golf Club back on SbN’s fixture list with all games being played in a very sporting and friendly manner.

Purdis Health had only provided 6 pairings before today’s game, but unfortunately one of their team failed to turn up so our pairing in match four played against a single player.

Today’s match was played on the Constable course which is showing signs of improvement, but sadly not the greens!! The Turkey roast meal after the match was thoroughly enjoyed by all.

First out as per custom was Captain JP and Mr. Vice Kevin. John played very consistently and Kevin filled in the gaps resulting in a 5&4 rectory.

The second pairing of Malcolm Norton and Allen Smith dovetailed very well and went 3 holes up early on and run out3&2 winners.

Andrew Cracknell and Trevor Waterhouse also won 3&2. Andrew won the nearest the pin on the 8th hole with his ball pitching next to hole and stopped within a few inches. I sure you have all see the photo! I’m glad to report he made the birdie!!

Roger Davies and Brian Roloff played against the single player from Purdis Heath. Needless to say, they were comfortable winners. I’m reliable informed they were only 4 up after 11 holes; Brian must have played really well!!

Next up was Barry Hitchcock and, newbie to inter club matches, Mick Henry who very kindly agreed to step in at the last minute due to illness. Their playing partners now have the same opinion as us SbN swindlers have about Mick’s handicap!! Despite having a lot of shots Mick also won holes where he didn’t  get one. They strolled to a 6&5 win.

Our last paring of Ian Bickers and Gordon Bryan must have received a record number of shots given in an Inter Club match. One of their opponents having a handicap if 1, he played very well and won the nearest the pin on the 13th hole. Gordon and Ian kept it altogether for 13 holes but finally lost 3&2.

SbN winning today 5 matches to 1.

Many thanks indeed to Allen Smith who undertook the reporting responsibilities for todays match.
