Match 2 - John Parkinson & Richard Allen
Enjoyable match nip & tuck early on. We lost only one hole the 4th Richard & John dovetailed nicely, 3 up at the turn, John shot 33 with 2 birdies on the back 9. Winning 6 v 4 good match followed by good food.
Match 3 - Peter Hele & David Drew
Colchester 4 up after 4 holes. David & Peters match was soon over, leaving them a good couple of hours to enjoy the spring sunshine. No highlights worth reporting, except Bill’s birdie on the 9th 440yard hole,
Lost 6 & 4
Match 4 - Paul Sandfield & Graham Cork
A match played in great spirit saw a silver medal performance by the SBN pair. A couple of encouraging halves early on lulled us into a false sense of security we quickly went 2 down , a fight back saw Paul haul us back to as at the turn. But the Colchester duo turned on the afterburners Mark’s second to within 4 feet and converted for a birdie.
Match 5 - Malcolm Norton & Bob Filer
Always look forward to a day out in the largest housing development site in Europe. Bobby & I were mere bystanders to a pair of very capable golfers with very generous handicaps. Very pleasant day in the warm sunshine.
Match 6 - Barry Hitchcock & Phil Brennan (matched halved)
Barry forgot to bring his golf clubs, but thanks to a very kind pro Chris he was able to borrow a set, at minimal cost. Fortunately they performed well enough for Phil & Barry to squeeze half, very sociable opponents
Bob & Mike made it a great day out.
Match 7 - Tony Carmen & Phil Hickley (Lost 2 -1)
Not a great start for SBN 3 down after 3 holes. Tony & Phil steadied the ship by getting the match back to 1 down with some decent play. But the killer blow came when Tony’s (Colchester Tony) slammed his approach into the flagstick to grab an unlikely half, ultimately Tony & Phil’s short game inadequacies let them down.
Match 8 - Shikhar Chatrath & Lionel Hatch
Shikhar & Lionel took on a very good pairing of David & Steve.
David giving shots to all 3, the Stoke by Nayland players struggled to keep up with the consistency of David and Steve and ended up walking in early after 6 – 5 defeat.
Both Steve & Lionel agreed that were desperately unlucky.
Many thanks to Dave Drew for reporting on the away Colchester match
