INTER CLUB MATCH v FELIXSTOWE - 11th JUNE

FELIXSTOWE           8         SbN          0             Ooooooops !!

What a fantastic day to play golf, with the warm June sunshine all the way round and a moderate breeze from the South-East. OK, it was not the result or scoreline we wanted, but the wonderful course and weather were the real winners today.

MATCH 1 – Lost 3&2

The only highlights were going 1 Up on the 1st and a magnificent birdie on the 15th. 2 Down at the turn, Felixstowe finished the match on the 16th

MATCH 2 – Lost 4&3

Phil lost 2 balls off the first tee setting the tone to what followed. However, Phil & Rob were 1 Up at one stage, but it did not last, once down they never recovered. Some excellent shots were played in the breeze and much fun was had on the course.

MATCH 3 – Lost - 1 Down

2 down at the turn, Mike Pineo (Felixstowe 22hcp) was playing a blinder, only 5 over gross after the first 9 holes! All Square on the 18th tee, Roger went wildly right, John with a Drive and a Wedge to the Green, Trevor's (Felixstowe) was the only ball found!

MATCH 4 – Lost - 2&1

Closely fought match played in a good spirit. Brian & Stephen won the first 2 holes, but it was All Square by the 12th. Some brilliant chipping on several holes by Brian (Felixstowe) eventually won the match, despite back to back birdies by Brian & Andy.

MATCH 5 – Lost – 3&2

Man of the Match was Felixstowe's very own El Bandito, Terry Cockerill, with several gross and net pars on the front 9. He also had a gross birdie on the Par 3 5th, as did Iain though, two brilliant putts. Battling back to 1 down by the 15th tee, the turning point was Mick's 2nd shot finding bunker right, where there was no escape (Arrgh!)

MATCH 6 – Lost – 2&1

Paul was on his game on the front 9, but John took over on the back 9. Closely fought game played in great spirit and fantastic company, but the Felixstowe team played very well to win.

MATCH 7 – Lost – 1 Down

Barry and Lionel were ahead all the way until the last 2 holes. Lionel was as impressive as ever, not sure in which way though, was it his outfit? Barry feels better after seeing the final result, but he wishes he had had the pork!

MATCH 8 – Lost – 1 Down

After a good start, Mal & Bob then lost 4 on the bounce to go 3 down at the turn. Losing the 12th to go 4 down, Sir Bob reeled back the years and again scored his age. From Dormie 4, they just lost out on the last hole. Mal enjoyed being his chauffeur.

Many thanks indeed to Mick Henry for reporting on today’s match at the seaside. Thanks Mick.
