INTER CLUB MATCH v HAVERHILL - 27th AUGUST

SbN         5       HAVERHILL            3

A beautiful day for golf (apart from the downpour mid round)

Capt Kevin & Roger Davies were first out – After a very poor start from Roger who had lost 4 balls in the first 3 holes, Luckily Kevin steadied the ship and after a very close match we won on the 18th when Kevin holed a curving 15 foot putt (Kevin remembers it more like 30 foot)

SbN Won 1 up

Simon Merriam & Rob Swann – SbN won the first hole and never lost the lead helped by 3 birdies and a 50 foot putt off the front of the 5th green, SbN were 3 up at the turn.                                                                                   Very good dovetailing and good use of the strokes on offer helped us maintain and increase that lead to finish with a good 5 & 4 win

SbN won 5 & 4

Kevin Walsh & Dick Lumsden – One of the most enjoyable games of the year but we got off to a bad start losing the first, It was nip and tuck for the next 12 holes with only ever 1 shot in it,                                             We went 2 up on the 15th and Kevin clinched victory with a fine birdie on 16,                                        Shame about the short but torrential shower !!!!

SbN won 3 & 2

Phil Hickley & Lionel Hatch – SbN got off to a flyer – Par, Par, Par, Birdie, Par to go 4 up and never look back, Good game played in the right spirit,  Shot of the day from Haverhills Nick who managed to get up and down from inside the pond on the 4th for a par (and a half !!)

SbN won 6 & 5

Ray Ludlam & John Williams – Opposition were very good company – In between some s__t_ golf Ray and I played some good golf with Ray birdieing the 10th,                                                                                                                    Ray said that half way round John stated “I used to be a good golfer 😉

SbN won 5 & 4

Mick Henry & John Crane – In a very tight game dominated by halved holes where there was never more than 2 holes in it we were 2 up after 3 and gradually Haverhill pulled it back at the 16th being 1 down Mick had a 10 footer to tie the match but left it agonisingly short, The match was played in very good spirit with very enjoyable company.

Haverhill won 1 up

Richard Allen & Graham Cork – A keenly contested match played in great spirit, 2 down early on we fought back to all square but the tactic of putting the ball in the water did not pay dividends,                                  A slight fightback began when dormie 4 but we could not bring it home,                                                                                     Richard played superbly his partner not so well !!

Haverhill won 2 & 1

PJ & Tony Emms – Having just returned from holiday including a week watching Mickey Mouse playing golf we both decided to imitate him! “We were poor” would be a generous comment.                                        How we only lost by 2 holes is another long story.

Haverhill won by 2 holes

Many thanks to John Crane on his report of the Haverhill match.
