SbN 4½ The Warren 3½
Match 1
Kevin Price (Captain) & Roger Davies - Win 4 & 2
Roger writes - Absolute honour to partner our Captain v The Warren Seniors' Captain, Nigel. Rather deflated to learn that Danny, Nigels partner, is the Warren Mens Captain. Got a bit p....... off carrying all their golf bags. Lovely day, wonderful company, most enjoyable
Match 2
Iain Gault & Peter Jay - Lost 1 down
Nip & tuck all the way round, neither team were ever more than 1 up. SbN were 1 up at the turn but promptly lost this lead on the 10th and 1 down on the 12th. Most of the back 9 holes were halved. 11 shot Mick didn't miss anything inside 6 feet - just too good for us.
Match 3
Phil Boyland & Graham Cork - Win 4 & 3
All square at halfway point when one of our opponents took a phone call and had to leave beause of a family bereavement. His partner was keen to continue to complete the match - full credit.
Match 4
Steve Mitchell & Norman Davidson - All square
A hard fought match had SbN 1 up at the turn, despite one of our opponents holing a 60 footer for par and a win on the 6th. SbN went 2 up with wins on the 12th & 13th only to be pegged back to level by the 18th. SbN were left with a 4 footer to halve the hole and the match - fortunately it went in. Good match, tight all the way round.
Match 5
Ian McKay and John Parkinson - lost 2 down
The SbN team started fine, winning the 1st hole - a lead they held onto for 4 holes. John managed 4 birdies and BB were close to level par. When 'the bandit', as John affectionately called him, made a mistake his partner stepped in. A very enjoyable match which went to the last.
Match 6
Kevin Walsh & John Williams - 4 & 3 win
Initially very nip & tuck with The Warren holding a 1 hole lead at the turn.Team SbN produced a run of pars and a birdie to take the match away to a 4 & 3 victory. A n enjoyable match against two friendly and generous opponents.
Match 7
Dick Lumsden & Tony Denmead - 8 & 6 victory
Just another routine win for our Winter Pairs Champions - 2 years running !! The SbN team didnt lose a hole and were 7 up at the turn, shaking hands on the 10th green. Oh - and Tony got 2 birdies.
Match 8
Mick Henry & Paul Sandfield - 3 & 1 defeat
Starting on the 17th we went 1 up after the 1st hole. Unfortunately, it went downhill from there, going 3 down. A fightback got it back to 1 by the 15th where a crucial putt was missed to go dormie 2 down. Phenominal putting by our opponent, Colin, sealed the deal.
First win of the year for Captain Kevin.
