INTER CLUB MATCH v COLNE VALLEY - 21st AUGUST
SbN 5½ FRINTON 2½
No Senior is an island entirely of himself
Each is a piece of the Team,
A part of the main.
If a putt is missed, the Team is the loss
As well as if the match were.
As well as if a putt of thine own
Or thine friends were.
Each Seniors’ missed putt diminishes you
For you are part of the Team.
Therefore, send not to know how the putt was missed,
It misses for thee.”
With many profound apologies to John Donne.
Which more than balances up the 3 -5 away defeat - Rah! Rah!
The course (even the 6th!!) was much more playable afer the long awaited overnight rain.
Very nice carvery lunch and a jolly good time was had by all.
Match 1 Captain Cork and Malcolm Win 3/2
Lots of dovetailing went on and our merry pair closed it out on the 16th.
Spawny Norton got NTP on the 13th but naturally missed the putt.
Match 2 Crackers and Stubbsie Match halved.
A bit of nipping and tucking went on.
Colne Valley Iain is a mate of Vanders (which is pretty bad) but (even worse) Crackers was giving him 7 shots!!!
Nuff said!!
Match 3 Price and Davies Win 1 up (There's lovely for you!)
As John Donne once said "It's all in the putting, you fools!"
1 putt on the 18th done in our friendly opposition.
Match 4 VC Walsh and Iain Gault Win 2/1
Lovely day on the Constable for our lovely boys who overcame a number of birdies and a net Eagle from the disappointed Colne Valley pair.
Match 5 Tony Reeves and Bill Kemter Match Halved
Our boys went from 3 up after 3 to All Square despite 3 birdies from Bill - Duh!!
Very friendly opposition of Peter and Paul - unfortunately, Mary couldn't make it!
Match 6 Tony Locke and Richard Allen Loss 2/1
More nipping and tucking and dovetailing and great company and wonderful spirit (yawn!)
Loads of pars and birdies and such .
However, the CV 18 handicapper parred 16 and 17 to put the tin lid on it (but in a very friendly way).
Match 7 Dicky Mids and Mick Henry Match halved
Lost some, won some then pretty much stayed like that until Mick sunk a monstrous putt on the 16th to halve the match.
All right - it was only a 3 foot putt which is quite boring, but he still sank it.
Match 8 Simon Merriam and Eric Fisher Won 3/2
Apparently "SPARKS FLEW" ( which is at least less tedious than nipping and tucking and dovetailing!!)
Our victorious pair were 4 up after 11 holes but only squeaked in 3 and 2!
Many thanks to Roger D for his usual inimitable reporting on todays Inter Club match - thanks Roger.
