INTER CLUB MATCH v NEWTON GREEN - 2nd SEPTEMBER

SbN     6½              NEWTON GREEN         1½

The day started overcast with promise of showers which came on gently but earlier then expected. Luckily showers  lasted for only 3 holes or so.

Match 1 Kevin Walsh & Eric Fisher

Won 4 & 3

SBN started well going 2 up after 2 then 4 up after 9. They lost the 10th after 3 more halves;
eventually won the 14th to go back to 4up then halved the 15th to win. A tight competitive but friendly match.

Match 2 Malcolm Norton & John Crane

Won 5 & 4

The first 2 holes were halved then Malcolm kicked into gear. The pair gelled well and were 5 up after 9 holes. NG won the 12th . the next 2 holes were halved then our  merry men clinched the match on 14th.
NG were very unlucky  as they both failed to read the greens. Despite losing NG were great company.

Match 3 Kevin Price and Paul Shefield

Won 4 & 3

KP was playing great until his driver broke which severely hampered him. Paul justified his presence with a few key halves. Victory was sealed on the 15th when KP rolled in a birdie putt from 40 feet !!!. Paul had the benefit of Kevin teeing his ball up for him which saved him from falling over !

Match 4 Andy Cracknell & Stuart Lawson

Match Halved

A close match but with a friendly atmosphere - never more than 2 in it. The esteemed Mr Lawson made great use of his shots to ensure an honourable and very fair draw.  Stuart won the nearest the pin on 7th being only 3ft away though modestly declined to tell us if he holed the putt!!

Match 5 Bill Kemter and Keith Holmes

Lost 3 & 2

NG players pushed hard throughout and took a canny lead toward the end of the round to win 3 & 2.
A Hole-in one on 18 to NG player Frank was the highlight. Well done to the 60 year old  'youngster'

Match 6 Graham Vandervord & Dick Lumsden

Won 4 & 3

Bit of confusion on the 1st with a late substitute for NG changing all the shots. Probably explains why both our players carved drives off into the woods left on the 17th fairway. However they scrambled a half then settled down. 4 up at the turn we coasted through the 2nd nine. two birdies each for Dick & Graham - although it was a bit overkill both getting a 2 on the 7th.  Good game , Good company.

Match 7  Tony Locke & Richard Middleton

Won 2 & 1

Starting on the 17th SBN took an immediate lead although from there it was nip and tuck all the way.SBN 3 up then NG 2 up. All square on the 15th hole played SBN rallied to finish 2 & 1 . A strong competitive match with some closely matched players.

Match 8 John Jardine & Ian Gault

Won 4 & 2

SBN got off to a good start with JJ winning 2 of the first 3 holes to go 2 up.NG got back to 1 down but that was as good as it got, SBN 4 up through the 10th then lost the 11th but closed it out with a par to win the 14th. Good game with SBN dovetailing well.

Many thanks to Richard Middleton on his reporting of today’s excellent win over our near neighbours. Thanks Richard.
