A very enjoyable second match of the season albeit with the same result as our first match!

The course was in good shape with all of us benefiting from the fact that the greens had been closed for the previous week to save them for the match.

Our hosts were very hospitable with a very hearty chilli and nachos for lunch followed by a delicious apple pie and custard to follow.

The match report is as follows:-

Match 1

Captain Graham & VC Kevin were victorious 9 & 8, so suffice to say, a comfortable win. SbyN played very well but NG had a “mare”. They were excellent company despite the circumstances - a friendly and enjoyable match.

Match 2

Barry “strong back” H and Steve “early shanker” S lost 3&1 in a game of many halves. There were enough wins to see the impressive NG duo producing some “majestic” drives, chips and putts throughout! Apart from the loss a thoroughly enjoyable round with great hosts.

Match 3

Imac & David D lost 3&2 despite being 3 down after 9holes. Imac played the back 9 one over par but such was the solid NG play there was no coming back. An enjoyable match in such beautiful weather with good company.

Match 4

Tony L and Colin D performed well to record a 3&2 win. As a late sub, Colin assumed he would not be required to contribute….. this he achieved! It was a close match during the front 9 and then Tony L turned on the style with 4 birdies. Impressive!

Match 5

John W & Del McW won 2&1. Losing the first hole but recovering on the 8th / 9th to go 1 up at the halfway stage. The (Mc)Williams duo did get to 2 up only for NG to birdie the 16th. A chip in on the 17th then sealed the deal for SbyN!

Match 6

Alas, a third loss in the match with Iain G and Eric F losing 5&4. Starting the round from the 16th, Iain birdied to go 1 up and Eric followed that up on the second to go 2 up. Unfortunately, by the 11th hole the teams shook hands with NG taking the win! To quote Eric, “well done them …… we still lost!”.

Match 7

David H and Simon M lost their match 4&2. SbyN lost the first hole to a birdie and never recovered. In fact,the feeling was that they were given a lesson how to play the course!

Match 8

Tony R and Mick H lost their match 5&3. Having been 3 down after the first 4 holes SbyN fought back to 1 down at one stage. However, from thereon in our lads were soundly beaten by the better team. The weather was good though!!

So, to conclude, 5 defeats for some of the slow starting SbyN teams but congratulations to our 3 winning teams.
