INTER CLUB MATCH v ROOKERY PARK - 28th SEPTEMBER

SbN            4½          ROOKERY PARK         3½

MATCH ONE - Graham Cork (Captain)/John Crane - won 5 and 4

A fine showing from the lead pairing.  John was quick off the blocks, taking full advantage of his 13 shots, to put SbN two up after two.  Back to all square after four, SbN then went ahead again with solid pars on holes six, seven, and eight.  A ‘Magnificent Seven’ on ten was enough to win the hole and some further pars on eleven, twelve, and fourteen were sufficient to secure the home team a comfortable 5 and 4 victory.  Allan, the Rookery Park Captain, then proceeded to birdie fifteen but this proved to be too much, too little, too late for the away team.

MATCH TWO - Andy Cracknell/Lionel Hatch - lost 4 and 3

Yeah, thanks a bunch, Roger … got absolutely stuffed.  Delighted that Dave, from Rookery Park, was driving 30 yards past Crackers … at 75 years old !

PS there’s a rumour currently circulating that Roger, with the poorly shoulder, was spotted on the course … surely this cannot be true ?

MATCH THREE - Iain Gault/Peter Jay - won 8 and 7

A remarkable mornings golf with the SbN pair dovetailing a dream. Iain recording 4 birdies and Peter making excellent use of his 11 shots! After the traditional ‘honour’ on the 1st this was not earned back until the 18th by which time  the result was long since earned.

MATCH FOUR - John Williams/Dick Lumsden - won 4 and 3

A close game for much of the round until the team from SbN moved ahead, eventually winning 4 and 3.  Good company; some good golf.

MATCH FIVE - Kevin Walsh/Mick Henry - won 5 and 4

Not a great start - Mick topped his first two shots however Kevin won the hole with a par.  The same, in reverse, then put SbN two up after two.  Excellent dovetailing continued throughout, with Mick holing an eight-foot putt on fourteen to close out the match.

MATCH SIX - David Seymour/Graham Stubbs - match halved

A very enjoyable match, played in good spirits and with never more than a hole in it.  The S an S duo, however, found themselves one down on the eighteenth tee, needing to win the hole to halve the match.  Stubbsie then deliberately plunged his drive into the lake, saying that it was time for Seymour to step up and finally contribute.  Consequently, with his gander well and truly up, a monster of a putt was duly sunk to much acclaim, and the match was halved.

MATCH SEVEN - Brian Roloff/Richard Middleton - lost 1 down

Let me start by saying that I (Brian) did not play apart from one hole with a par when it did not count.  Richard played great golf, with a very good short game, which kept us in in the game until eighteen, where we both went in the water and therefore lost the match by one.

MATCH EIGHT - Simon Merriam/Tony Reeves - lost 4 and 2

SbN kept in touch over the early holes and it was still all square after four.  Rookery then had a strong run, going three up, although this was reduced to two by the turn.  We managed to stay in touch, still two down through fourteen, but then another strong run finally finished the SbN off, 4 and 2.

Many thanks to Stubbsie for taking on the responsibilities of reporting on todays match against Rookery Park - cheers mate.
