It was a damp and drizzly start and torrential rain to finish…but none of that dampened the spirits of the 40 players who contested the American Greensomes on the Gainsborough Course.
For some, it was the first time of playing this particular format, with both players driving, then playing each other’s second shots before choosing the ball to finish the hole.
But everyone seems to have adapted well, with no team scoring less than 30 and half of the field scoring 40 or more.
Overall winners on the day were Mark Clark and Mal Jones with 45 points – but only taking the top spot on countback from Tony Denmead and Ian Bickers, also with 45 but a slightly weaker back 9.
Third, and also in the prizes, were Adrian Cherry and Phil Brennan with 44 points.
